There has been an active Bahá'í community in Langley since 1971, and today there are approximately 60 Bahá'ís residing here. The first Local Spiritual Assembly of Langley City–a nine member body that guides the administrative affairs of the local community–was elected on April 21, 1977. The Langley Bahá'í community is a diverse group of families and individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Members of the Langley Bahá'í community often come together for prayer, social and study gatherings, Holy Day celebrations and more. In 1993, at the request of the Bahá'í community of Langley, the then Mayor of Langley City, Joe Lopushinsky, proclaimed November 7 to 13 of that year to be "Unity In Diversity Week."
