COMPUTER CLASSES The free Bahá’í Computer Classes have been taking place in Bakau and various other localities since 1998. It is a socio-economic project that was established mainly as a result of the Bahá’í principle of service to humanity. In today’s world of rapid technological advances, the “digital divide” phenomenon has appeared to become a major obstacle to progress and development in The Gambia, and computer literacy is limited to those with access to a computer. In response to this, the Bahá’ís of The Gambia created the Free Basic Computer Classes – a medium for those without computer access (or knowledge of usage) to learn the basic skills that will open the doors to employment and further enhancement of their lives. The instruction of the Basic Classes is based mostly on practical usage of a computer where the students learn to use the Windows operating system as well as develop advanced skills in file management and Microsoft Word. There have also been several advanced classes in the past, focusing on spreadsheet, database, and graphic design applications. These were available to the graduates of the Basic Class. Class participation is key, and upon completion the student receives a Certificate of Participation. These classes are usually taught by a Bahá’í Year of Service volunteer. These are Bahá’ís who have decided to dedicate a year of their lives for volunteer service to humanity in any community that wants help.
Schedule: Unfortunately, there are no classes currently scheduled but developments will be posted here. |
