Session 1:
Introduction, Aim, Scope, Sources of study
1. The Aim: To study the Book of Certitude and to obtain an appreciation, however cursory, for its exalted station
2. The Purpose: To deepen our
understanding of the role of the Faith of Baha'u'llah in our individual and
collective lives; to increase our insight into the current workings of the
Cause; to better equip ourselves for informed defense of the Baha'i ideals, and
to draw inspiration and spiritual nourishment from the Writings of Baha’u’llah.
3. The Scope: In this one-semester online course
we will attempt to:
a) Study the historical events associated
with the revelation of the Book of Certitude
b) Examine the origin of the
questions that were posed to Baha’u’llah and gave rise to the book
c) Understand, however inadequately, the scope of the topics covered, the logic of the flow of the argument and the lessons that can be learnt both for the methodology and the substantive arguments in the discourse.
