9. STUDY PROGRAM
Century of Light,
145 pages, is made up of 12 sections (identified with Roman numerals), some of which
vary considerably in length. Most sections have clearly marked subsections
within them. This course divides the 145 pages of the book into 12 units. With
few exceptions, the number of pages allocated to each unit vary in length
between 12 and 15 pages. This has made
it possible to assign one unit per week. The course runs for 13 weeks, the last
week being for presentations.
The weekly assignments require studying
thoroughly the assigned pages and participating in one of the many discussion
options explained in Discussion Options below. The questions in the Study
Guide, Appendix 2, may also be used in the weekly study, either individually or
in a study group. For example, in a study group, you can discuss the themes
together, then ask each other the questions in the Study Guide. Or,
individually, you are free to write the answers in your Notebook.
If you have decided to prepare Projects,
we suggest that during the last few weeks of the course you start working on
your Literary Project and your Presentation project. This is explained in
Appendix 4.
You are requested to study thoroughly
about 3–5 pages of Century of Light a day. This will allow you time to
participate in discussions and do some outside reading. If for some reason you
are on occasion unable to follow this daily study program, we suggest that you
catch up as soon as possible during the 2 short breaks.
