WELCOME!
The Bahá'í Faith and Bahá'u'lláh
The Bahá'í Faith is an independent world religion with millions of followers from different backgrounds across the globe. The Founder of the Bahá'í Faith is called Bahá'u'lláh (1817-1892). His name means the Glory of God.
Unity in diversity, local and global
Bahá'u'lláh’s teachings embrace all the Founders of the world’s religions, including Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Zoroaster, Christ and Muhammad. He teaches they all come from one source and have brought the same spiritual principles of love, fellowship and peace. The Bahá'í scriptures say there is only one God and that religion evolves through progressive stages to aid humanity’s spiritual growth.
Bahá'ís worldwide are working peacefully to achieve spiritual and practical unity for the whole, beautifully diverse human family. In Calderdale we are working at the local level to serve a wide range of people of all ages and backgrounds and with a variety of organisations to share our spiritual principles and to inspire people to put them into practice to build a better world. There are also Bahá'í bodies at national and international levels working in a spirit of unity in diversity towards these same aims.
Around Calderdale
There have been Bahá'ís in the Calderdale area for many years. There are currently Bahá'ís in Halifax, Sowerby Bridge, Todmorden, and other parts of Calderdale. Our Bahá'í community is also part of the West Yorkshire cluster of Bahá'í communities (which covers the additional metropolitan boroughs of Bradford, Kirklees, Wakefield and Leeds). There are nearby Bahá'í communities in Burnley, Colne, Hull, Liverpool, Manchester, Nelson, Rochdale, Sheffield, York and many other places around the North of England.
Our local website
Here we have tried to offer only a brief introduction to the Bahá'í Faith and to the activities of our local community in Calderdale. For far more detailed and comprehensive information about the Faith please feel free to visit bahai.org. There is also an excellent site with the latest news about the UK community at Bahá'í News UK. You may find our extensive links page helpful as a starting point for finding out more but please do contact us if you have any questions or if you are interested in becoming a Bahá'í.
We are planning to update our site over time with various new content. We’ve recently launched a photos page and will be uploading videos of interviews with local Bahá'ís as they are completed in the coming months. We’ve also just added a brief news blog as a way to provides updates about changes to the site and to give some information about some of the things our community is doing.
