![]() A Few Words to Parents "Every child is potentially the light of the world--and at the same time its darkness; wherefore must the question of education be accounted as of primary importance. From his infancy, the child must be nursed at the breast of God's love, and nurtured in the embrace
of His knowledge, that he may radiate light, grow in spirituality, be filled with wisdom
and learning, and take on the characteristics of the heavenly host." --'Abdu'l-Bahá,
(Bahá'í Education: A Compilation, page 50)
"The beloved Master has said that ‘it is enjoined upon the father and mother, as a duty, to strive with all effort to train the daughter and the son,' adding that, ‘should they neglect this matter, they
shall be held responsible and worthy of reproach in the presence of the stern Lord." Universal House of Justice Ridvan 2000
"Children are the most precious treasure a community can possess, for in them are the promise and guarantee of the future. They bear the seeds of the character of future society which is largely shaped by what the adults constituting the community do or fail to do with respect to children. They are a trust no community can neglect with impunity." Ridvan Letter 2000 - Universal House of Justice For Children and Youth
Kids and the Five Year Plan
Each child and junior youth is called upon to:
Kids, come on out to our Baha'i school classes held every Sunday
at 9 a.m. We have lots of fun learning about virtues and how to turn our world into a wonderful
place for all of us to live, no matter our background, skin color, or ethnicity. It is important
for us to show God's love to all His creatures. Kindness, patience, conflict resolution should be
our tools for doing so.
A joke: Do you know why we call Baha'u'llah an Architect? Because He can turn abasement into glory.... We encourage our children to think of themselves not only as citizens of the United States, but as World Citizens, part of a global community. As a World Citizen I accept the oneness of the human family and the interconnectedness of all the people on the earth, our common homeland. As a World Citizen I will use and develop the talents within me to be of service to the world of humanity. I will work with others in a spirit of amity, understanding, cooperation, and trustworthiness. As a World Citizen I will be willing to sacrifice for the common good, so that all the members of our human family have food and shelter, and a means of livelihood to preserve their human dignity. As a World Citizen I will strive to rid myself of all prejudices based on sex, race, nationality, religion, class, or ethnicity. I will learn to appreciate the beautiful diversity of the human race, through friendship, fellowship, and education. Our motto is: "Unity in Diversity" which is our key to strength and wealth both for the nation and for the world community. ![]() I will work for the preservation and just distribution of the earth's natural resources through my willingness to be satisfied with less, to make efforts in my daily life and habits to conserve more. As a World Citizen I will learn to become a conscientious consumer, educating myself as to the affects on people, animals, and the environment as to the food I eat, the products I purchase, and the recreational activities I enjoy. I will abide by the laws of the land of whatever country I live in or visit. (Some of the wording in this pledge is from World Citizenship, A Global Ethic For Sustainable Development.)
