Our members
In order to maintain a live community life members attend: firesides,
unity feasts and Nineteen day feasts. Among other meetings our group is
able to organise courses on the healing of racism and literacy courses for
ethnic minorities.
- Firesides:
- discussions for Bahais and enquirers.
- Unity feasts:
- for Bahais and friends.
- 19 day feasts:
- for Bahais only; include a devotional part and an administrative
part.
Ethnic variety
The bahai community of Haringey, true to the pivotal principle of the
oneness of mankind enshrined in the Bahai revelation has members who
originate from the continents of Europe, Africa, America and Asia,
countries of the Middle East, Czechoslavakia, Hungary and Poland and from
the Caribbean to the Indian Oceans.
- Many nationalities: cultural melting pot
- The healing of racism is a major preoccupation of our community

Landmarks
Among the important landmarks near which members of the community live
are:
- Shoghi Effendi's memorial with its marble column crowned by a globe
under the claws of a golden eagle ( Inset). It is at the New Southgate
cemetery.
- Alexandra Palace: a major exhibition centre overlooking hundreds of
acres of woodland and lakes with birds, swans and boating.
Activities
The Bahai community in Haringey is involved with in a number of
activities in addition to fireside meetings.
- Slide shows:
- It organises slide shows for teenagers to show the changes in society
since the Bahai revelation.
- Exhibitions:
- Exhibitions in libraries are held regularly to promote the principles
of a modern religion which will take us into next century with
confidence in the future of mankind.
- Youth activities:
- in conjunction with the North London [Youth Teaching/Community]
Project.
- Afro-Caribbean Centre:
- Members attend the Afro-Caribbean Centre during mealtimes on a weekly
basis.
- Inter-faith meetings:
- The community representative attends Inter Faith meetings held at the
Whittington Hospital and patients may have visitors from the community
when called upon.
