| Other well-known towns in Lancashire are Blackpool, famous for its Pleasure Beach (fun-fair); Burnley, Blackburn and Lancaster, the original county town. Smaller towns include Leyland (buses and trucks), Clitheroe, Chorley (cakes), Fleetwood (fish) and Lytham-St. Anne's (golf). |

Granted city status on 14th March 2001 as part of the queen’s jubilee celebrations, Preston is the county town, having Lancashire County Hall (left), as well as the Law Courts and a Magistrate's Court. Formerly a cotton-mill town, the local industries are now Aircraft Manufacture, (British Aerospace), Nuclear Fuel Manufacture (British Nuclear Fuels), a Printing Press Manufacture (Goss) and some textile manufacturing companies. The town also boasts a University (the University of Central Lancashire) that is favoured for its departments of journalism, textiles and law; and its Business School, and Faculty of Health. | |
