Guidelines for travel teachers

"O Thou Incomparable God! O Thou Lord of the Kingdom! These souls are Thy heavenly army. Assist them and, with the cohorts of the Supreme Concourse, make them victorious, so that each one of them may become like unto a regiment and conquer these countries through the love of God and the illumination of divine teachings."[NOTE 1]

  • We recommend that, as a prospective travel teachers, you consult in advance with the receiving community so that you know what to expect from them, and they know what to expect from you. (For example, requirements for such matters as hospitality, publicity, a slide projector, a flip chart, someone to chair meetings, likely audience, etc.) The trip is far more likely to be successful if it is well planned in advance.
  • The Travel Teacher should consider himself or herself to be the servant of the receiving community and follow their guidelines.
  • If you meet enquirers on your trip, introduce them to the local friends and try and keep in touch yourself.
  • Try to return in order to re-establish and foster friendships made.
  • Finally, and most importantly: Never underestimate the importance of prayer and meditation, and recognise that often when things appear to go wrong, provided we are steadfast and don't throw in the towel, unimagined opportunities can open up before us. Experienced travel teachers are replete with such anecdotes. Tune in, then, to the Concourse on High and let them lead you. As Bahá'u'lláh wrote, "Verily, We behold you from Our realm of glory, and shall aid whosoever will arise for the triumph of Our Cause with the hosts of the Concourse on high and a company of Our favoured angels."[NOTE 2]

Never Travel Teach alone – always take Bahá'u'lláh and the Concourse on High with you.
