"The Activity Generator" Strand 1d – Service.

Contrasting -  could look at jobs and professions. Having seen how they differ, teacher must point out that they are all important.  Also we can all serve in different ways, make a list of some.

Role-playing –  someone pretends to need help, others go to offer help.

Action – two aspects; (1) all find some way in which they can serve the Faith, either individually or with someone else. For very young ones, this could for example be as simple as handing round a plate of food at the Feast, but it would perhaps be nice if a brief note were to go from the teacher to the host and a reply slip returned to confirm that it had been done. (2) serve the local community in some way. This would be for older students and is probably best done in a group with an adult in charge, e.g. sing some songs etc. for a group of elderly people at a residential home or in a hospital.

Discussion - working in pairs, threes or fours. Clearly both the above suggested actions would need discussion first regarding what sort of service to be done.

Make Music. - could come into either of above actions.

Video-making – older students (or parents of younger ones) with access to a cam-corder could record one of these actions for playing at the next class, or even to the whole school.
