LESSON SIX - QUDDUS

Preparation: Diagram for each child (upper room of the Báb's house), Crayons, etc.

Summary of previous lesson: The Báb told Mulla Husayn that thirteen of his companions would arrive in Shiraz on their search for the Promised One. Mulla Aliy-i-Bastami was surprised to find Mulla Husayn quietly teaching in the mosque. Then Mulla Ah had a dream which led him to find the Báb and the other twelve also accepted Him.

Story for this lesson:

Very soon there were seventeen Letters of the Living and the Báb prepared Mulla Husayn to meet the eighteenth. During one of his nightly visits, the Báb said to Mulla Husayn, "Seventeen Letters have thus far enlisted under the standard of the Faith of God. There remains one more to complete the number. These Letters of the Living shall arise to proclaim My Cause and to establish My Faith. Tomorrow night the remaining Letter will arrive and will complete the number of My chosen disciples".

The next evening as the Báb, followed by Mulla Husayn, was returning home, a young man appeared who looked as though he had travelled a long way. He went to Mulla Husayn, embraced him and asked whether he had found his heart's desire. Mulla Husayn tried at first to calm him down and asked him to rest a while. The young man could not be stilled and suddenly his gaze fell upon the Báb and he asked Mulla Husayn why he was trying to hide the Promised One from him, for he knew who He was by the way He walked. Mulla Husayn was surprised by his words and went to tell the Báb what had happened. The Báb told him not to be surprised by what had happened because the young man had been called and chosen by God.

The young man was called Quddus by the Báb, and he was also a descendant of Muhammad. He had become a follower of Siyyid Kazim and the other disciples remembered that he was a very quiet and humble person. When he became a faithful follower of the Báb he was only twenty-two years of age.

Homework questions:

1. How did Quddus know who was the Báb?

2. How was Quddus remembered by the other disciples?

Creative work:

Give the children each the following sheet. Ask the children to read the words.

Colour carefully.
